60th Over
Tasmania have defeated the XXXX Gold Queensland Bulls by 163 runs with 14 overs to spare late on Day 4 at the Gabba. Thanks for reading and remember to check in on Thursday with three gripping matches to decide the 2012/13 Bupa Sheffield Shield Finalists.
The Bupa Sheffield Shield is wide open as we enter the final round on Thursday. The table reads - VIC 28 (points), SA 26, WA 26, TAS 24, QLD 24, NSW 23. Final matches - NSW v SA (SCG), TAS v VIC (Hobart), WA v QLD (Perth).
Tasmania 245 (Wells 82, Harris 3/85) & 6d/342 (Doolan 83, Cosgrove 63, Faulkner 52*, Wells 52) def. Queensland 281 (Burns 120, Hopes 72, Hilfenhaus 4/84) & 143 (Pomersbach 61, Hilfenhaus 4/33, Butterworth 4/30). Points - TAS 6, QLD 2. MOTM - Hilfenhaus
We can't forget the very good contributions with the bat in difficult conditions by Jon Wells, Alex Doolan, James Hopes and a fine century by Joe Burns. Tasmania though put in the better team performance and their season is still alive.
Man of the Match Ben Hilfenhaus ripped through the Queensland top order not once, but twice. His bursts in both innings left Queensland in tatters at 3/18 and 3/8 - they never really recovered. He was well supported today by Luke Butterworth.
That's an outstanding performance by Tasmania to win this game after giving up first innings points. The batting yesterday set the game up and the challenge proved too much for the Bulls today.
C.Gannon - c:Paine b:Butterworth 4 (7 balls, 17 minutes). FOW 10/143 (59.6), 10th wicket partnership (Gannon/McDermott) of 4 runs (11 balls, 5 minutes). A.McDermott - 0* (5 balls, 5 minutes).
Over 59.6: Butterworth to Gannon, no run, OUT, pushes with a drive outside off stump and gets an edge through to Paine! It's all over, Tasmania win by 163 runs with 14 overs to spare! QLD 10/143 (Gannon 4, McDermott 0)
Over 59.5: Butterworth to Gannon, no run, right behind the next ball and defends it.
Over 59.4: Butterworth to Gannon, no run, gets back in the crease and leaves outside off stump.
Over 59.3: Butterworth to Gannon, two runs, drives in the air again and just over the leaping Wells at backward point. Fortunately for Gannon he's picked the smallest man on the ground.
Over 59.2: Butterworth to Gannon, no run, gets back in the crease and defends.
Over 59.1: Butterworth to Gannon, two runs, slices a drive in the air but safely through backward point and they take a couple of runs.
59th Over
60th Over: Luke Butterworth (3/26) returning at the Stanley St end, replacing Gulbis.
Over 58.6: Hilfenhaus to McDermott, no run, ducks down low and gets himself under the bouncer. QLD 9/139 (Gannon 0, McDermott 0)
Over 58.5: Hilfenhaus to McDermott, no run, gets right behind the ball and plays to the bowler.
Over 58.4: Hilfenhaus to McDermott, no run, defends from the crease to the off-side.
Over 58.3: Hilfenhaus to McDermott, no run, moves right behind the ball and defends it.
Over 58.2: Hilfenhaus to McDermott, no run, ducks under a very short ball.
The short ball again does the trick for Hilfenhaus. It was angled in towards the ribs and probably did Harris for pace. He was late on it and the ball popped towards where a short fine leg might be. Paine did very well to get across and grab it.
R.Harris - c:Paine b:Hilfenhaus 5 (20 balls, 30 minutes). FOW 9/139 (58.1), 9th wicket partnership (Harris/Gannon) of 5 runs (12 balls, 11 minutes). The last batsman is Alister McDermott.
Over 58.1: Hilfenhaus to Harris, no run, OUT, first ball after Drinks and Harris is attempting a hook shot. It pops up off the gloves and Paine runs to his left and tumbles to take a good catch. Tasmania have an hour to get the last wicket.
