13th Over
The Sydney Sixers have thrashed the Highveld Lions by 10 wickets with 45 balls to spare to win the 2012 Champions League Twenty20 tournament on South Africa. Thanks for reading and congratulations to the KFC Big Bash League defending Champions!
Sydney Sixers 0/124 - Lumb 82* (42), Haddin 37* (33) defeated Highveld Lions 122 - Symes 51 (46), Hazelwood 3/22 (4), McCullum 3/24 (4). Man of the Match is Michael Lumb and Man of the Series is Mitchell Starc.
Lumb's unbeaten 82 has also got him the Golden Bat award for most runs in the tournament. Mitchell Starc takes the bowling award as well to highlight just how strong this side has been. They go through undefeated.
The Sixers won this game largely in the field with all of the bowlers hitting good areas. The fielding was outstanding and they restricted the Lions to a total 50 runs below par. Then Michael Lumb and Haddin blazed away to a massive victory.
Brad Haddin says they have been building for this game for two weeks and he looks a very proud captain. Remember he did this with a fractured thumb tonight. His captaincy was great and he takes most of the credit for opening with spin - a masterstroke.
It has taken the Sydney Sixers barely an hour to chase this total down. The Highveld Lions were shell-shocked tonight and played like a side who lost their nerve on the big stage. From 4/9 on a belter of a pitch, the Lions never had a hope.
Over 12.3: Pretorius to Lumb, FOUR, slices a drive over backward point and the Sydney Sixers have completed a 10 wicket thrashing to win the 2012 Champions League Twenty20!
Over 12.2: Pretorius to Lumb, SIX, and there he goes again swinging the ball high over deep backward square leg. It has flown at altitude to carry the ropes - a record opening partnership for the Sixers as well.
Over 12.1: Pretorius to Lumb, SIX, new bowler is Pretorius and Lumb doesn't need a look! He takes a step down the pitch and swings the arms to clear deep midwicket!
12th Over
Over 11.6: Nannes to Haddin, FOUR, short ball sits up for Haddin who middles a pull shot through midwicket. Excitement is building for the Sixers now with just 14 more needed. SYS 0/108 (Lumb 66, Haddin 37)
Over 11.5: Nannes to Lumb, one run, drives a slower ball with a thick inside edge through square leg.
Over 11.4: Nannes to Haddin, one run, works the ball neatly off his legs for a single to deep square leg.
Over 11.3: Nannes to Haddin, no run, back and across to defend straight down the pitch. Haddin remember is playing with a fractured thumb today.
Over 11.2: Nannes to Haddin, no run, stands at the crease and misses a glide outside off stump.
Over 11.1: Nannes to Haddin, two runs, backs away to the returning Nannes and top-edges a pull shot safely towards deep midwicket.
11th Over
Over 10.6: Morris to Haddin, one run, backs away and Morris follows him with a full toss. Haddin plays through midwicket for an easy single. SYS 0/100 (Lumb 65, Haddin 30)
Over 10.5: Morris to Lumb, one run, there it is! Michael Lumb is now the leading run scorer of the tournament with that single to deep square leg.
Over 10.4: Morris to Haddin, one run, short ball pulled hard straight to midwicket. The batsmen aren't running but there's a throw anyway. It deflects off the bowlers' stumps for a single.
Over 10.3: Morris to Lumb, one run, and the same again! This time it's a top-edged pull shot and it doesn't carry to fine leg. Lumb needs 1 more run for the Golden Bat award.
Over 10.2: Morris to Lumb, two runs, even his mis-hits are falling safely! He didn't middle that drive but mid off is back so he can only chase it down.
Over 10.1: Morris to Lumb, SIX, here's Morris again and there goes Lumb again! He shuffles across and flicks the ball off his pads way over backward square leg.
