With that the South Africans have also notched back-to-back series victories in Australia - winning the 2012/13 series 1-0.
South Africa have won the Third Vodafone Test by 309 runs - their biggest ever by runs against Australia and eighth overall. It was also the third biggest win margin by runs at the WACA Ground and highest ever by the touring team.
Hashim Amla has been named player of the match. Taking on the Australian bowlers for 196 runs in the second innings. Michael Clarke named player of the series.
Starc and Lyon provided some excitement in the final session with the WACA Ground record 10th wicket partnership. Starc unbeaten at the end on his highest first-class score.
