47th Over
Australia defeated Pakistan by 3 wickets with 18 balls to spare, winning the series 2-1 in the UAE. Thanks for following this morning and we'll be back with the first of three Twenty20 matches at 2am on Thursday AEST.
Australia 7/250 (47) - M.Hussey 65(72), Maxwell 56*(38), Saeed Ajmal 3/37 (9) def. Pakistan 7/244 - Hafeez 78(97), Starc 4/51 (10), Johnson 2/33 (9). Man of the Match - M.Hussey. Man of the Series - M.Starc
Mike Hussey made the most of that luck and fought through a tough period early to anchor the chase professionally. He was well supported by Wade before Glenn Maxwell took the game away with some brilliant, clever and clean hitting.
Then David Hussey was asked to open the batting and he and Warner made a great start before Michael Clarke carried it on. However Saeed Ajmal took 3 quick wickets to put Pakistan in control. He should have had M.Hussey for 0 but Pakistan failed to Review.
That was a very good performance by the Australians today. Pakistan made a great start with the bat but Australia took regular wickets to restrict them to a total probably 20-30 runs short of what was needed. Mitchell Starc was again great with the ball.
Over 46.6: Junaid Khan to Maxwell, SIX, slower ball has been sent out of Sharjah at long on and Maxwell has finished in style! A fitting end to a great chase by Australia as they win the match by 3 wickets with 18 balls to spare, and take the series 2-1.
Over 46.5: Junaid Khan to Maxwell, no run, drives hard but straight to the fielder at backward point.
Over 46.4: Junaid Khan to Johnson, one run, turns an attempted yorker away to deep backward square leg. Scores are tied.
Glenn Maxwell 50 runs off 36 balls with 4 Fours and 2 Sixes. This is a great innings because he arrived with the game in the balance but he took it away from Pakistan, in just his 4th ODI match.
Over 46.3: Junaid Khan to Maxwell, one run, swings it away hard along the ground to deep midwicket to bring up a wonderful 50!
Over 46.2: Junaid Khan to Maxwell, FOUR, waits on the crease and swings the ball away hard to deep backward square leg! Great shot to a full ball angling in and he middled it!
Over 46.1: Junaid Khan to Christian, no run, OUT, lofts a drive very high in the air but it should be caught. The sub Farhat runs across to his left from mid off and takes it nicely. A good catch in the lights and dewy conditions, Christian departs.
46th Over
Over 45.6: Saeed Ajmal to Maxwell, no run, well forward and defends straight back to the bowler. Just 7 runs to win. AUS 6/238 (Maxwell 45, Christian 2)
Over 45.5: Saeed Ajmal to Maxwell, FOUR, gives himself room and drives inside-out through extra cover again! He smashed that low this time but it's more great batting.
Over 45.4: Saeed Ajmal to Maxwell, SIX, width outside off stump and Maxwell launches it one-handed a long way over extra cover!! Great batting and Australia have unearthed a really good talent in the young Victorian.
Over 45.3: Saeed Ajmal to Christian, one run, back in the crease and punches a single to long on.
Over 45.2: Saeed Ajmal to Christian, no run, again he gets well forward and smothers the ball. They don't need to take any risks against Ajmal, he has just 10 balls left to bowl.
Over 45.1: Saeed Ajmal to Christian, no run, gets well forward and defends to the off-side.
