But a brace of wickets swung the game again before Sarah Coyte and Jess Jonassen got the Southern Stars home by 4 wickets with a ball to spare.
The run chase struggled early and Meg Lanning's wicket had the Silver Ferns on top. But Jess Cameron batted superbly with Alex Blackwell to turn the game in the Southern Stars' favour.
So a fantastic finish to this first of five Twenty20 internationals between the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars and the Silver Ferns from New Zealand, the Southern Stars getting up with a ball to spare!
