MATCH RESULT: Victoria 1/126 (Handscomb 62*, Carters 53*, Forsyth 8, Swan 1/12, Brimblecombe 0/17, Feldman 0/25) drew with QAS 122 (Feldman 36, Kemp 28, Batticciotto 20, Cameron 3/14, Salpietro 3/23, Reid 2/20). Match Drawn. Points: VIC 2, QAS 0.
Thanks for your company throughout this match. Unfortunately, we were only able to bring you one full day of cricket. Join us tomorrow when the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers take on the Retravision Warriors in the BUPA Sheffield Shield. Bye for now.
So common sense has prevailed with the safety of the players being the absolute concern for the match officials who were left with no choice in the finish.
The ground is just too wet for cricket, in particular the bowler's run-ups which are soaked under foot. The QAS quicks tested them out yesterday under clear skies and they were struggling with their footing.
Unfortunately, it's more of the same. Heavy overnight rain ruined what minute chance there was of getting any play today, the match has officially been called off.
09:20 AET: Good morning and welcome to final day coverage of match 6 of the 2011/12 Futures League between Victoria and QAS from the Junction Oval in Melbourne.
Play will start at 09:30 AET tomorrow, half an hour earlier than the scheduled 10:00 AET start to make up for lost time, but at this stage, the prospect of any more play in this match doesn't look good. So long from the Junction Oval.
10:05 AET: And that is officially that. The umpires have abandoned play for today, the run-ups are just too wet, and with some rain about and more forecast, they've made the decision to abandon play.
We're waiting for an official word from the match officials but the consensus is we won't get any play today, and tomorrow is looking doubtful as well. We will keep you posted as news comes to hand.
It's still wet under foot, and as we speak, there's rain falling. The forecast is for morning thunderstorms and afternoon rain so the chances of any play today look remote.
Unfortunately, there's more bad news. We've had more overnight rain and the covers are on. The major concern is still the bowler's run up at the Fitzroy Street End of the ground.
09:55 AET: Good morning and welcome to Day Three coverage of Match 6 of the 2011/12 Futures League between Victoria and QAS from the Junction Oval in Melbourne.
With more rain forecast tomorrow, the prospects of a result in this match don't look good. We'll keep our fingers crossed that the weather improves and we get some play on the final two days. See you tomorrow at 10:00 AET for the early start!
12:22 AET: We've just received word from the umpires, after inspecting the ground and meeting with the captains, they've decided to abandon play for the day. An unfortunate set of circumstances, but the obvious concern is the run-ups on both ends.
12:20 AET: An early lunch has been taken here while the Umpires and the two captains discuss the conditions of the playing surface. It's still pretty wet out there, and if we hear anything from the Umpires, we'll let you know.
Still no word on a start time, the groundstaff continue to dry the ground while the QAS boys inspect the outfield. If the rain stays away, we should get some play after lunch, which is scheduled for 12:30 AET.
12:10 AET: A little bit of movement out in the middle. The umpires, groundstaff and match officials have been inspecting things. The overhead conditions continue to improve slightly, with the sun doing it's best to break through the clouds.
The umpires both went out to inspect the area at the end of the pitch on the Fitzroy Street side of the ground. It's looking a little brighter here, still overcast, but there's been no rain for well over an hour now.
They are also drying the bowler's run ups at both ends. Water on the covers had gotten underneath, creating wet patches, and with the poor drainage, the groundstaff are having to dry the ground manually with blowers.
11:30 AET: The groundstaff are still drying the end of the pitch at the Fitzroy Street End, where the bowler plants his foot.
Provided the rain stays away, we'll get some play in today, which will be welcome news for the home side who are in a commanding position.
11:00 AET: We've had no rain in the last half an hour and the groundstaff continue to work on drying the end of the pitch at the Fitzroy Street End. Super soppers are soaking up excess water on the outfield.
Victoria will resume their first innings on 1/126, a lead of 4 runs and will be looking to build an insurmountable first innings lead. We'll keep you updated as news comes to hand.
There was talk yesterday that if the rain that was forecast over the next 3 days were to fall, we'd be in trouble, and here we are. Fingers crossed we get no more rain for the remainder of the day so we can get some play in.
The outfield was resurfaced before the start of the season, and the drainage just isn't up to scratch, which means bad news for all concerned. At this stage, there'll be no play until after lunch, provided we don't get any more rain.
Unfortunately, the news is not good. There's been heavy overnight and morning rain which has delayed the start to Day Two. The covers are off at the moment and there's no rain about at the moment, but the ground is wet.
10:30 AET: Welcome to Day Two coverage of Match 6 of the 2011/12 Futures League between Victoria and QAS from the Junction Oval in Melbourne.
STUMPS DAY ONE: Victoria 1/126 (Handscomb 62*, Carters 53*, Swan 1/12, Brimblecombe 0/17) vs QAS 122 (Feldman 36, Kemp 28, Cameron 3/14, Salpietro 3/23) lead by 4 runs in their first innings.
Play will resume tomorrow at 10:30 AET, the Victorians will be looking to build a huge first innings lead. Join us then.
