30th Over
MATCH RESULT: Australia 5/216 (Wade 67, D. Hussey 61*, M. Hussey 45, Vinay Kumar 3/21, Rohit Sharma 1/17) df India All Out 151 (Kohli 31, Dhoni 29, Rohit Sharma 21, McKay 4/20, Starc 2/33) by 65 runs. Points: AUS 5, IND 0. MOM: Matthew Wade (AUS).
And that concludes our coverage of this match. Please join us on Tuesday as India and Sri Lanka do battle at the WACA in Match 2 of the 2011/12 Commonwealth Bank Series. Until then, it's good night from the MCG.
Matthew Wade has been named Man of the Match for his opening 67 that formed the back bone of the Australian innings and help set up the difficult target. He was also clean with the gloves and is looking good to retain the keeper's job from Brad Haddin.
The bowling was generally good, plenty of short stuff to test the batsmen out, with the quicks doing the damage for the Aussies.
He ran out of partners as the wickets continued to fall and eventually fall in the 26th over, only a last wicket stand of 28 from 26 deliveries prevented an even heavier defeat.
It was all uphill from there as the bowling slowed them down and it was left to Dhoni to try to do somthing magical.
But Clint McKay came on and dismissed both of them in the 12th over to have the Indians reeling and with two new batters at the crease.
Their run chase got off to a disastrous start, losing Tendulkar and Gambhir cheaply before Kohli and Rohit Sharma steadied things.
Their total of 216 was far more than what the Indians would have expected and was too much for them to achieve in the finish as they lost regular wickets to fall well short of the target.
And so Australia have run out comprehensive winners in the finish, after a slow start with the bat, they've defended a total nearing 7 runs per over to open the series with a win.
Over 29.4: McKay to Kumar, no run, OUT, gone this time, and it's all over, he's skied this one off an attempted pull shot, up to long on and Harris takes the difficult catch running in, inches off the turf, Australia win by 65 runs!
Over 29.3: McKay to Kumar, no run, gives himself room to a short ball, a slower ball that completely deceives him as he swings and misses

Over 28.5: Starc to Vinay Kumar, one run, short of a length ball outside off, opens the face and steers it to third man, 150 up (173b 126m)
